The Goose that laid the Golden Eggs

"Let's kill the goose,"said Elena.   (p 38) 

 The farmer have a Goose which produce golden eggs. So, they are rich. However,they kill a goose,because they want to get golden eggs early. But goose has not them. The farmer are poor.
 I think they leave them happy for greed. I often hear as this story. People can't see surrounding for their greed.
